servite collegeThe Congregation of Mother of Sorrows Servants of Mary was founded on 8th December 1854 in Trichirappalli, Tamilnadu, South India. This is the first indigenous Congregation in Tamilnadu and celebrated the 150th Anniversary of the Foundation of its Congregation. This is a registered Charitable Society with S.No.4 of 1954 dated 16.03.1954.


This society is serving in the field of Education for 166 years by running educational institutions from Primary school to Arts and Science college, Teacher training schools, Special schools for Deaf and Dumb and Blind. Servite College of Education is an extension of the vision of the Congregation established to extend its services in the field of education. At that time an Italian Jesuit Mgr. Alexis Canoz S.J., the Vicar Apostolic of Trichy, appointed another Italian Jesuit Fr. Peter Mecati to direct and guide the young Congregation. Under the guidance of these two Italian Jesuits the Congregation weathered many storms and has grown into a healthy spiritual and Apostolic oriented group.


In 1857 on the sixth Friday of lent, the church venerated the Sorrows of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the first five young girls received their first holy habit. In 1859 on the same day they made their first profession. The church approved the written constitution in 1876.
